PSA Proposition 7 NAY NAY

http://dnisan.blogspot.com/

Government Everyday? YEAAH!

The question isn't whether you see government in day to day life, but where and when you see government role in society. In America, the very fact that you can Bush Bash (making fun of George W. Bush), burn flags, read books, have an opinion, is proof enough that government is an active part in our society. In a more artistic way, the very physical view you have of your surroundings, roads, bridges, people, the daily life that goes on around you, was made with the help of the government.

What Makes An American?

I believe that being an American, (from my skewed point of view) is ultimately one who sacrifices or has sacrificed something for this country, whether they served in the war, or came here for economic opportuniy and contributing to American society, I dont believe that a piece of paper or a card defines you as an American as I know plenty of people that do so much for this country but aren't "citizens" of this country.

Get Out The Vote PSA

My Project Partner's Blog Link GET OUT THE VOTE PSA

Would I vote if I was allowed to?

If i could, yes. In history, voting was a privilege, prevented dictatorship, etc. My vote will ultimately be worth more than 1 vote in any election as all the other people not voting will make my single vote be worth more than it is, but if more people vote, it is also a good side as the general public will (hopefully) be smart enough to vote for a leader who can lead a country to progress and well being.

My three most important issues in the election and the 2012 election

The three most important issues for this election and the election in the next 4 years would undoubtably be the war in Iraq, the economy, and health care. I am absoutely opposed to the invasion of Iraq, especially in the circumstances on which the war was carried out on. Iraq was invaded on a lie, Bush fabricated evidence, mission was not accomplished, and we spend 8-11 some odd billion dollars on a lost cause to a people that absolutely hate us for being there. Economy is another big issue especially after it tanked in september, and after it fell below 8000 for the first time in recent years, 1.6 million now unemployed, gas prices falling to 53$ a barrel from the lack of demand as no one can work for the gas, it is crucial issue to me as how the next president will help revive the American economy from the biggest mess since the Great Depression. And finally health care as the baby boomer generation is not slowing down on their age with time, and with the 10 trillion dollar debt, I want to know how i'm going to retire when I'm older when I won't be able to work to live the rest of my days.

Federalist 10 Response

The overall federalist reading was incredibly wordy, as any old writing back in the day would be. It was incredibly dense to read through and it's views on the flaws of different parties with different views on issues to create a central, unified government.

My own party: The mutual party (cliche name)

My party would view the government similar to the libertarians. But views on social issues, economic, and foreign policy issues would be dealt with at the core. Instead or pro or anti abortion, it would focus on pregnancy rates, and reducing unwanted pregnancies, and leaving the state to decide whether or not they will be pro choice/life, same thing would apply for gay rights, poverty levels, etc. Views on foreign policy will be dealt with diplomacy in conjunction with neighboring countries, usually foreign policy problems arise when a single country is given aid from our country (as it has in the past), so deal foreign policy with diplomacy first and foremost. Healthcare and Education issues will be dealt Education having a direct correlation of health care/health. Being aware of what you eat, how you take care of yourself, etc, as well as having knowledge for college, better job opportunities should be a primary goal at the state level, while they're should be an optional nationalized healthcare equivalent to the kind that government officials get. Economy is something that the government should be a balanced level between safety, and economic growth, safe enough for consumers to go and feel safe buying products, but left alone to a point where economic growth is good/stable. All these issues would be dealt with with the process allowed by law in the United States of America, with representative at the lowest REPRESENTING the will of the people. =D

Green Party

Logo/symbol of Green Party

History

The Green Party is a political party which was first established in Tasmania in 1972. Organization in the United States began in 1984, inspired by the success of the German Green party. In 2007, it became the third modern party with a Federal Elections Commission-recognized Congressional Campaign Committee. The Green Committees of Correspondence were the first Green political organization in the United States, forming in 1984 and eventually becoming known as the Greens/Green Party USA. This organization still exists. The first candidates to run on the Green Party ticket in the United States were Wes Hare (NC), Joel Schechter (CT), and Richard Wolff (CT), who ran for local offices in 1985. Official ballot access was not achieved, however, until Jim Sykes' run for governor in Alaska in 1990.

Idealogy
The Green Party of the United States emphasizes environmentalism, non-hierarchical participatory democracy, social justice, respect for diversity, peace and nonviolence. Their "Ten Key Values," which are described as non-authoritative guiding principles, are as follows:Grassroots democracySocial justice and equal opportunityEcological wisdomNon-violenceDecentralizationCommunity-based economics and economic justiceFeminism and gender equityRespect for diversityPersonal and global responsibilityFuture focus and sustainability

Famous Party Candidates

In the year 2000, the ASGP nominated Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke for president and vice-president again. This time, the pair were on 44 state ballots and received 2,883,105 votes, or 2.7% of all votes cast. Nader's strong showing in several states solidified the changes in the Green Party from an "anti-party party" to an organization primarily dedicated to electoral campaigns. In particular, that was the widespread understanding of thousands of recruits to the party, as it went through an unprecedented rate of growth.

Site for the National Convention

The 2008 Green National Convention took place on July 10-14, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois at the Palmer House Hilton and Symphony Center. This served as both the venue for the Presidential Nominating Convention and the Annual Meeting of the Green Party of the United States.

Slogans

"Under Republicans, Man exploits Man. Under Democrats, it's just the opposite." - Earl Gray"The Green Party is the party for the 21st Century""In a nutshell: Ecology and Community!"

Political Platforms

-War on Terrorism
The use of Homeland Defense monies to spy on citizens exercising First Amendment rights is particularly onerous, as are "sneak and peek" provisions of the U.S.A.P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act that allows surveillance of libraries, readers, the Internet, and computer users. Basic rights ensuring individual privacy are under attack. The U.S. government's use of high tech tools, including intrusive monitoring, data mining and analysis to identify and disrupt citizen activists, should be seen as an attack on fundamental rights of an engaged, active citizenry. The Green Party calls on Congress and the courts to reign in constitutional and civil liberties abuses that have become prevalent in the Bush administration and the John Ashcroft Justice Department

-Healthcare
Medicare, which provides health care for over 40 million Americans, is at risk. We would vigorously pursue savings and cuts from abundant waste and fraud, eliminate unnecessary services that benefit providers more than patients, and rein in pharmaceutical industry price-gouging. National measures to reduce work hours, promote cyber-commuting for work, and increased vacation time for workers will significantly improve the public's health. We advocate access for all, irrelevant of income, to stress management training such as meditation techniques, yoga, tai chi, qigong, and biofeedback. improving the quality of our nation's food supply and our personal eating habits will lessen the strain on our health care system. We advocate subsidies for organic foods, as well as removing sugar/caffeine snacks from schools. This could save our nation as much as $700 to $850 billion of the $1 trillion annual health costs. We support the teaching of holistic health approaches and, as appropriate, the use of complementary and alternative therapies such as herbal medicines, homeopathy, acupuncture, and other healing approaches.
-Education
Educational funding formulas at the state level need to be adjusted as needed to avoid gross inequalities between districts and schools. Educational grants should provide balance to ensure equal educational access for minority, deprived, special needs, and exceptional children. In higher education, federal college scholarship aid should be increased and offered to any qualified student. It is time to stop disinvesting in education, and start placing it at the top of our social and economic agenda. We oppose vouchers, or any scheme that will transfer money out of the public school system. That course only leads to a separate and unequal educational system. We also oppose charter schools or the administration of public schools by private, for-profit entities. We advocate state funding for day care that includes school children under the age of ten when after-school programs are not available. Classroom teachers at the elementary and high school levels should be given professional status and salaries comparable to related professions requiring advanced education, training and responsibility. We support tuition-free post secondary (collegiate and vocational) public education. Until tuition-free schooling is available to all, student loans should be available to all students attending college, and should be repayable as a proportion of future earnings rather than at a fixed rate. The Leave No Child Behind Act must be repealed, especially the section that gives the military access to student records.

-Environmental Justice
Devoting greater efforts to full enforcement and prosecution of environmental crimes. Funding environmental crime units for district attorneys in counties with significant pollution problems.Imposing a moratorium on siting new toxic chemical or waste facilities in those counties with the highest percentage exposure to hazardous substances. Not forcing workers to choose between a hazardous job or no job at all. Preventing communities, especially low-income or minority communities, from being coerced by governmental agencies or corporations into siting hazardous materials, or accepting environmentally hazardous practices in order to create jobs.
-Abortion
Reproductive RightsWomen's right to control their bodies is non-negotiable. It is essential that the option of a safe, legal abortion remains available. The "morning- after" pill must be affordable and easily accessible without a prescription, together with a government-sponsored public relations campaign to educate women about this form of contraception. Clinics must be accessible and must offer advice on contraception and the means for contraception; consultation about abortion and the performance of abortions, and; abortion regardless of age or marital status. We endorse women's right to use contraception and, when they choose, to have an abortion. This right cannot be limited to women's age or marital status. Contraception and abortion must be included in all health insurance policies in the U.S., and any state government must be able to legally offer these services free of charge to women at the poverty level. Public health agencies operating abroad should be allowed to offer family planning, contraception, and abortion in all countries that ask for those services. We oppose our government's habit of cutting family planning funds when those funds go to agencies in foreign countries that give out contraceptive devices, offer advice on abortion, and perform abortions.

-LGBT
The Green Party affirms the rights of all individuals to freely choose intimate partners, regardless of their sex, gender, or sexual orientation. We support the recognition of equal rights of persons gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender to housing, jobs, civil marriage, medical benefits, child custody, and in all areas of life provided to all other citizens. We support legislation against all forms of hate crimes, including those directed against people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, and intersex.

-Immigration
Preferential quotas based on race, class, and ideology should be abandoned for immigration policies that promote fairness, non-discrimination and family reunification. The Green Party calls for permanent border passes to all citizens of Mexico and Canada whose identity can be traced and verified. Work permits for citizens of Mexico and Canada must be easily obtainable, thereby decriminalizing the act of gainful employment. This action would help eliminate exploitation of undocumented persons by criminals engaged in human contraband (coyotes) and unethical employers. It would also help ensure that taxes will be paid in each corresponding nation per its laws. These measures will also help temporary residents from Mexico and Canada to secure driving privileges and liability insurance. Labor laws must be adjusted to take into account seasonal foreign workers. Employers must provide full rights to wages and health benefits to immigrant workers who make voluntary contributions to pension plans and pay Social Security taxes. We advocate an end to employer sanctions, which have been shown to hurt not only undocumented workers but also U.S.-born workers (especially those of color). A fair and equitable legalization program will provide equal access to working people of all nationalities, not tied to a specific employer or guest worker program. Programs involving temporary worker status must include the option of permanent residency for immigrants already in the U.S. and protection of migrant worker savings. Greens oppose "English-only" legislation. We would advocate legislation to ensure that federal funds marked for communities to provide ESL (english as second language) training, and health and social support services to immigrants actually go to them. When funds are spent in other areas, immigrants are being deprived of benefits that they earn as productive workers in their communities.

-Green Party Speech
Thank you for giving us the chance to voice our opinions this year at the National Convention. The green party is an organized political party and has been so since 1984. For those of you who don’t know, our main focuses are on the environment, how we can focus on staying green and keeping ourselves (the nation) healthy without damaging nature; respect for diversity, we believe in giving everyone equal rights; peace and nonviolence; war isn’t always the answer and conflicts can be resolved with communication and one-on-one discussion. The Green Party is the party for the 21st century. For healthcare we advocate access for all, irrelevant to income. Improving the quality of our nation's food supply and our personal eating habits will lessen the strain on our health care system (organic). For our education system, we want to ensure equal educational access for minority, deprived, special needs, and exceptional children. In higher education, federal college scholarship aid should be increased and offered to any qualified student. It is time to stop disinvesting in education, and start placing it at the top of our social and economic agenda. The Green Party is the party for the 21st century. A woman’s right to control her body is non-negotiable. It is essential that the option of a safe, legal abortion remains available. Clinics must be accessible and must offer advice on contraception meaning consultation about abortions and the performance of abortions, and abortions regardless of age or marital status. The Green Party supports the recognition of equal rights of persons gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender to housing, jobs, civil marriage, medical benefits, child custody, and in all areas of life provided to all other citizens. The Green Party is the party for the 21st century. The Green Party calls for permanent border passes to all citizens of Mexico and Canada whose identity can be traced and verified. Work permits for citizens of Mexico and Canada must be easily obtainable, thereby decriminalizing the act of gainful employment. We want to devote greater efforts to full enforcement and prosecution of environmental crimes. We don’t want to force workers to choose between a hazardous job or no job at all. In doing so we will prevent communities (especially low-income or minority communities) from being bullied by governmental agencies or corporations into sitting hazardous materials, or accepting environmentally hazardous practices in order to create jobs. Ladies and gentlemen, look around, times are changing. It’s time to focus on the present in order to move forward into the future, that is why the Green Party is the party for the 21st century.

Journal 10/07/08

Q:Which political party would you register for and why?

A: I would register as an independent, because i personally don't believe in blind faith to parties without hearing the issues. Even then i wouldn't vote straight off without knowing the agenda of both candidates, that's like asking to jump off an airplane without a parachute, but everyone else on the plane tells you that you have a parachute, just so they can have enough parachutes to save themselves.

"Why Vote?" Response to Article and PSA's

The whole why vote article, tells me that voting is ultimately a matter of choice. Do you vote? yes or no? why or why not? do you know the issues? yes? or are you just voting blind? These are all the questions that most people come across and it's because of these questions that it'll come down to whether they'll vote or not. I honestly agree with the article on some of it's cases, on how without voting powers, or forced voting, people willl inevitably become controlled by the government.

PSA responses. The capital emphasis in a PUBLIC SERVICE announcement is to reach a target audience. And I believe the commerical that tried to reach the youngest age group failed in that department. Yes it's important to have a good commerical that catches people's attention. But it's also important to catch the right KIND of people. What's the point of drawing in <18 year olds, when they can't even VOTE? A good aspect about the commerical is that it knows what attracts a certain audience. For this particular commercial, it was based on what was deemed the "teenage norm" of this time. What would they most likely be doing other than watching t.v.? And I think that having commercials super attention catching, at the same time, able to be related to their audience group, is important

Roots of Hip Hop

Hip-Hop History

The aspects of Hip-Hop, the roots can be found back in the 1970's block parties in the Bronx, New York. The four elements of Hip-Hop soon came to be as, Dee-Jaying, MCing, Rapping, and Breakdancing. The roots of Hip Hop music can be traced back from music systems in Jamaica in the early 80's. as for the actual term "Hip Hop", it actually came from the song "rappers delight" by the sugar hill gang. I am sure we have all heard the phrase “i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogieto the rhythm of the boogie, the beat”. The Hip Hop movement is traced back to New York in the 80s. A man from Jamaica, a DJ who went by Kool Here brought his style from Queens New York to the Bronx and tried to intertwine that with instrumental, and percussion of the day’s popular song, since the pieces were so short he could mix them together over and over making the rhythm endless. Rap became so popular because of the fact that it was so cheap to do it. You didn’t have to buy an instrument to rhyme, you didn’t have to take lessons, and it was a verbal skill that could be practiced at anytime. It also became very popular because the fact that it was so challenging. The only real requirement was to be original and with the ease and popularity of Hip Hop you would find many artists starting to emerge. Artists would challenge each other creating what was known as battles. People who would rap and DJ’s went hand and hand because the pair went flawlessly together so you would also have a lot different Dj showing their beats with rap artists. With the era came the slang that went with it the birth of the slang came form when Dj’s would acknowledge people in the audience when at a party. Artists like Kool over an instrumental break would yell 'Yo this is Kool Herc in the joint-ski saying my mellow-ski Marky D is in the house’ the style became very popular and soon became a normal thing setting the trend for the Dj’s of our age.

Salmonella Outbreak Update.

Recently the Salmonella outbreak with tomatoes in the U.S. has been wreaking havoc among the 12 States that have been affected. And New Mexico now has requested all resturaunts in their state to temporarily stop selling food that contain tomatoes. So the reason why I'm talking about this now is because recently we've been working in non-profit organizations with indicting america, etc. One group in our class was talking about indicting the FDA about the inefficiency of their system. This just further proves my classmate's point. I don't understand,... wait no i understand. The lack of reform must certainly follow with complete negligence of important issues coming from Bush and his administration. I honestly hope that people in America make the right choice and make Obama president and hopefully reforms in all aspects follow to repair the whole mess of doo-doo that used to be called America. =(

Book Report: Animals In Translation

Grandin, Temple. Animals In Translation. Scribner, New York. Harcourt Books: 2005

I ended up choosing Animals In Translation because it was one of the books that was supposed to be read over the summer for my english class, but I never got around to read it and I decided that now was a good time. The book doesnt take place in any particular time but is about the recent history of autism and how animals think the way people with autism think.

The book is mainly about Temple Grandin and how she has helped various people that work with animals whether it be farms or for meat products, or veterinary care help better treat and raise animals using her handicap/benefit of autism which helps her think like an animal would.

Temple Grandin, who is the the writer of the story as well as the main character is a very interesting person. The book giving the reader what she is thinking is completely from the norm. Her with autism gives a focus to a lot of precise detail and not the bigger picture in a sense that would be normal to an average person. Using autism, she finds out that many animals that seem to behave poorly or is very aggressive is mainly because of the environment and misunderstanding of animals from other people.

I overall liked the book because it was a compelling story that was a first time for me. One downside though was that for some parts of the book it was INCREDIBLY slow and boring to get through but in the end it was understandable, and this book really reminds me of the previous book I read, "Thinking Big" by Ben Carson just because of the insight the author provides throughout his own book and Temple Grandin seems to do that to some degree in her book as well.

Temple Grandin is a Ph.D. animal scientist and is reknown for being a gifted scientist in her field as well as designing one third of all live stock handling facilities in America and has even designed her own method for animal well-being. She wrote one other book that is a direct autobiography of her and her life with Autism titled "Thinking in Pictures".

Ethics Reflection

I personally think that the news is just blowing out of porportion of what the actual status of ethics are. The only reason why it seems like ethics went out the window is beecause the media reports only the people that break them, not keep them. If they reported every single form of ethics that are in action today, it would be as much as if not more good ethics than bad ethics in the world today. And I believe that trying to teach ethics in classrooms are unnecessary. Children are brought up and follow from parents, and most parents in today's society try the best they can to raise their children, and I think that it shouldn't be government's responsibility to teach ethics to children, and I most definitely believe that it shouldn't be a requirement for graduation. Come on, overall how many students are level headed at teenage years? I'll assume very few. And if you look along recent history, people have done fine learning from their elders and those around them, i dont see why now should be the time to make it federal law for someone to tell the truth, that would be infringing on the freedom of speech to say whatever you want. Answering the question of if its a universal truth or personal belief, it most definitely is personal belief, it's just the fact that people as a society choose to accept it as a universal truth. The freedom of speech would definitely lead to chaos if everyone can say what they want and lie all the time, but the fact that personal beliefs and being a society prevents total chaos. I think the only reason why people want to put ethics in to education is because of the crisis we are in, the war on terror, shady politics, shady politicians, pop culture going down the drain, etc. I believe that after this whole era is over, nature as well as human nature will correct itself.

Proof of Desperation

Hilary Clinton will soon be showing possible signs of desperation in an attempt to become the Democratic Nominee for the general election coming november, and i honestly hope that she gets desperate enough to the point where she'll blow a gasket on t.v. then clinton supporters will be like "whoa, guess i'm voting for obama." OR she'll make a "graceful" exit and get her supporters to vote for obama since he needs the entire democratic party's support to go against Mccain WHEN he becomes the nominee

Tech in Schools, how much is enough?

Growing up in the 90's where the computer industry was booming. I learned to use computer around 5th-6th grade and I learned the usefulness and the incredible amount of information contained in the internet. I have to say that it wasn't too much of a hinderance with my actual learning at school, as most of it was self-taught. With this article that says that students don't need that much technology in their lives at an early age is true. My cousin is 8 years old and in the 2nd grade and he already knows how to access websites and use google, and use a word processor and most of the time he uses the computer for unproductive reasons, and it's just one example of how students should be more focused on developing social skills and learning from good ol' textbooks instead of learning how to use word processors, and googling everything at the age of 8. I personally agree with the article that elementary and middle schools do not need all the technological advancement that the current time offers, and that they should focus on having more of a balance, and a gradual progression toward learning through computers toward high school, and learning the basic skills, then, instead of sacrificing all the necessities that a young student needs for the sole purpose of making spreadsheets, writing essays, and using the internet for research at such a young age.

Harvard THE Exon Mobil of Higher Education.

I don't know if the facts are true from Glenn Beck, but if it is true I completely agree with his arguements. Harvard is currently in the wealthiest 1% of America and has a cash endowment equaling the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which is about 37.7 BILLION dollars. Harvard continues to increase expense of tuition and dorm to their students while they make an estimated 23% a year. with 300 million a year, barely 1% of their total endowments, they can make education at Harvard free for all their students. Now some a**hole who happens to be Harvard's associate vice president for government, community and public affairs says that "this would put us at a competitive disadvantage toward the commonwealth." this is my own input, WTF does that mean? What disadvantage? if anything Harvard would get even more applicants, even more brilliant minds, and even more inspiring people knocking at the door for a chance at one of America's greatest education for FREE. The whole irony here is that 70% of them say they view themselves liberals and they choose to be conservative when they want to be, and the Glenn Beck calls them just what they are, hypocrits. Again if Glenn Beck's sources and information is true, i seriously think that Harvard and the wealthiest 1% of colleges, (doesn't say in the article, but i'm guessing MIT, Princeton, Yale, and possibly Duke) should make their education free. But then again, there is that whole correlation where students that are financially responsible for their education in college tend to have higher graduation rates...

Book Report 5/12

Carson, Ben. Think Big. U.S.: Zondervan: 1984

I didn't pick this book, but I got it as a gift from my mother when I was having a hard time struggling with family problems and personal problems. It is a non-fiction autobiography of how Ben Carson back in the 60's rose from the poorest sections of Detroit and is now one of the most famous doctors in the world.

Ben Carson was born in Detroit and was born in the poorest neighborhoods and lived with his mother and brother, as his father left the family back when Ben was 2. He had done poorly in school till the 5th grade, where his mother made rules for him to read 2 books and give book reports each week and his mother would grade it albeit slowly as his mother was illiterate. He soon realizes that reading is fun and he achieves the top grades through middle school and high school and attends John Hopkins University and becomes one of the most famous neurosurgeons today.

Ben Carson's story is certainly an inspiring one, and it seems so far fetched it's ridiculous, but I think that though not everyone will be as great as he is, he talks about the qualities that he possess and its that he's never stopped believing in himself, he had self confidence and he valued and respected the people around him and always tried to do better, and I think that with help from his mother allowed him to change his own future.

I overall loved the book, and it was interesting to see how he interacted with the different people and environments he was in throughout his life time and it taught me that how you react to everything changes everything and defines who you are going to be in the world. I think that everyone can learn from Ben Carson''s story.

Reading Ben Carson's story, it reminds me of all those inspiring stories that I've read about famous heroes through history such as Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Frederick Douglass, etc, and I think that people like Ben Carsn set an example and give hope to people that were in a situation similar to his.

Ben Carson has written one other book titled "Gifted Hands" where it is a closer look at his life as a neruosurgeon rather than his childhood and how he came to be, and I hope to read it as soon as my sister finishes reading it.

Barack Obama was acquiese to break of ties with Reverend Wright as he was his pastor for 20+ years, as with Barack Obama I admire his efforts to become president as only people with the greatest love/infatuation with his/her country can be fit to run the home that they were born in. As with his ability to captivate and inspire people he speaks with an almost incantation fashion, further compliments his abilities to be the next President of the United States.

The Aroma of Coffee is one of the best to wake up with, especially as you get older and you realize that you need coffee to give yourself that morning jolt, jaws of life, reinvigoration =D

There's a phrase "awkward turtle" where anytime you have an awkward moment you put your hands together like a turtle, and say "AWKWARD!", and a picuter of an actual turtle came to mind for me.

Ecstasy the drug gets its name from the literal sense that it give a sense of happiness when you take it, and being in the crazy American culture we live in, and given the circumstances that the world in general is in a bad situation, the word Ecstasy no longer means a sudden rush of happiness or excitement, it just means drugs....=/

Trying to stop a tsunami is futile, as you just get owned (when i say owned, i mean pretty much done for unless you happen to be about 40 feet above sea level) in the face by the time you realize there is one.

I chose this book as i was looking through the New York Times best seller lists as I recently started looking for and reading books that have been on the list as most of those books are very interesting to read, it's written style and the content is strikingly similar to "Freakanomics" and it deals about how the world works differently than we thought just like "Freakanomics" and I think as soon as I found out, I got a deeper interest to keep reading the book.
As the book is similar to "Freakanomics", it doesn't necessarily have a plot in a sense that there are characters that develop in a setting in chronological order, but it gives various case-by-case, study on how there was a tipping point in each of these cases that made a certain item or subject become famous or recognizable. Examples of these were Hush Puppies, the t.v. shows "Sesame Street", and "Blue's Clues", and t.v. advertisements.
The Tipping Point had no character that was actually made, but the book as being in a different style of the current generation, it was a good book with no characters involved.
As I have read "Freakanomics" before, this book was highly enjoyable as it brought back the memories of how enjoyable "Freakanomics" were and "The Tipping Point" was just as good. Though it was very good I would recommend "Freakanomics" over "The Tipping Point", for reasons I'm not sure of.

I think that this book is really important to read as it can possibly have a life changing impact on the way people would view the world and become more aware of their actions, and I think that reading a book that gives various insight on how situations come with a miraculous result come to be helps people see the world's unexplainables in to an explainable one.
Malcom Gladwell is currently working as a staff writer for The New Yorker, and he has another #1 New York Times bestseller list with a title "Blink" and I'm hoping to read that book as well.

Clintons attacks do..nothing?

If everyone's been up to date with the campaign trails of the democrats, it has been a rough week for both Hilary and Obama indeed, but Hilary making what seems like an all-out, last ditch attacks at trying to sway superdelegates, it's failed miserably. Obama who have chosen some bad words on what he was trying to say, was attacked for it. Hilary on the other has lied to the public about bosnia, failed to fulfill her duties during her earlier days as senator/first lady with conflicts of interest with Bill, as well as being a hypocrit of various policies, she has resorted to the lowest forms of attack and has been seen through by the superdelegates. Even though the attacks with intentions cleary visible, the superdelegates still haven't decided as it is still a close race, and hopefully next weeks pennsylvania will help finish her off =D

Vertigo, self-explanatory, i was thinking of topsy turvey tables, but ehh couldn't find one.

Last Words

Prompt: You only have a limited time left to live. You are somehow able to leave a message behind, to pass on some final thoughts, what would be your message?

As i'm counting the clock of my final days
all my memories seems to slowly fade away
Having lived a long life
there's so much advice that i don't have enough time to say
having finally realized how precious time is
I can say to live with no regrets
though it's been said over and over again its taken for granted
and even when it's not people can't or won't live life
But to live life with no regrets
make the best choices
whether or not there is a good or bad

1. Kanye West’s “Heard Em Say” implies that we’re not that nation we’re perceived to be, he talks about a lot of the internal problems that the government ignores while America continued to help others.
2. We’ve always seen ourselves as an overall the best country in the world, but Kanye West say that a lot of Americans see it negatively as well

1. With America holding the oldest constitution in the world, I think that people always see us as a nation of freedom and equality
2. With the current decade having been run mostly by George W. Bush, and though the song was written very early at the time, the fact that government has ignored a lot of the internal problems that America has is shown in this song, and how Jay-Z knows his rights to not get taken advantage of.
3. So far not much has changed; the government is still ignoring the many problems with the slums and the ghettos with African American communities.

1. This song is Eminem’s perception as America viewed as no longer free but entangled by divided people and corrupt under President Bush
2. We have seen ourselves in this song as divided, no longer “united we stand”
3. So far the song has pointed out that attitude and it is still the same today, as the war continues and the people continue to hate Bush’s doctrine and his administration.

Since Bush came in to office we no longer see ourselves as the nation we have set out to be

Overall the country has viewed itself negatively for the past 8 years

The attitude has changed a little and the changes have always been leaning toward the negative side

Current Event 04/02/08

Following the news of the Democratic race, Senator Barack Obama still has a lead over Hilary Clinton in delegates, and so far Clinton's supporters and political analysts say that she must win the popular vote in pennsylvania. So far I'm really frustrated with the results of how it is not ending. Hilary Clinton though she is just as good as obama, her recent credibility lost due to her lie about a certain trip visit as first lady, isn't dropping out, hopefully Obama wins, but honestly i'd be happy with both of them as long as it is not Mccain becoming president

Warren Buffett?!!

Forbe's List of the world's wealthiest people have announced that He is now the richest man in the world at an amazing, but not unheard of 63 billion dollars net worth. He surpassed fellow friend, ex-richest man Bill Gates. Bill Gates held the title for 13 consecutive years, who is now in 3rd place right behind Mexico's Telecommunications owner Carlos Slim Helu. America who used to hold the top 20 billionaire spots with 10, now holds only 4. The current decade has brought in more billionaires than ever, with the owners of Google, Creator of Facebook etc.

Civil War Book Report: Narrative of Frederick Douglass

Douglass, Frederick. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Dover Publications Inc. 1845.

I remember back when I was in sophomore year that we read a small excerpt from Frederick Douglass's book as a small study of slavery during my world history class. I forgot about it until recently of doing the civil war project and given the assignment of reading a book about the civil war. I decided to read it. The book is about Frederick Douglass, one of the most famous abolitionists to end slavery. He talks about how he came to be and how he lived in Maryland before the civil war had started.

Frederick Douglass assumes that he was born around 1818 from overhearing his master. He grows up on a plantation that has is owned by Colonel Lloyd. He tells of how his master Captain Anthony whips his Aunt Hester and how she gets raped by a drunk Captain Anthony. He talks about how he is whipped severly by an overseer appropriately named "Mr.Severe". However he soon dies and is replaced by Mr. Hopkins, who all the slaves say he is a fair seer. He soon learns to read and write from after moving to Baltimore through Mrs. Auld for the 7 years he's there. He soon gets further education through Thomas Auld, Mrs.Auld's son's old books. During this time he learns about the situation of slavery and becomes desperate to escape. With the knowledge he acquires and his various owners dying, taking, and managing property along with Frederick. He plans and plans his escape from his final master of Hugh Auld and escapes to New York. He is taken by a free black-man named David Ruggles and gets help to move to Massachusetts. He works miscellaneous jobs and soon saves enough money for an abolition magazine. He attends an antislavery convention and was urged to speak about his life as a slave. After that moment, he continually worked for the freedom of slaves.

Frederick Douglass's autobiography shows how much physical and mental will he had to desperately become free. His story tells an incredible tale of how he had managed to escape the inevitable system what would have trapped him as a slave forever. He had an iron-will at most times and there were few instances where he was in incredible despair and had glimmer of hopes appear to him during those times, and I think that each time that he over came those despairs his will became ever stronger.

After finally finding the time to read this book. I think that it is one of the most important books during 19th century. His book coming from his perspective as a slave gave further proof to the North that slavery cannot go on forever, as it was inhumane. I also think that the book ultimately showed me that you should never give up regardless of your situation.

Frederick Douglass has written this book right before the start of the tensions building up that eventually led to the Civil War in 1861. He was a figure of hope for many slaves at the time and of the most well known abolitionists at the time.

Trying to associate memory with sounds that I heard for a short time, I thought a lot about childhood memories.

From the sounds of birds chirping, cars passing by, children running around. I thought of a lot of my child hood memories. Most of them were of me living in downtown San Diego. All the sounds made me think of a peaceful park, where children can just run around

The aboriginals of Alaska(?), Inuit, supposedly a drawing of them in 15 something

Don't mind nerds, but don't you have the ones that are really "hubris" just cause they know everything?

Potato famine in Ireland=Dearth, haha thought of replacing dearth with Alex A. there for a second =D

What is Art? HMM??!

Art in my own words, means any form of self-expression through any medium usable. Whether it be dancing, music, writing, drawing, painting, theatrics, etc. Anything can be art from a person's self-expression. As for the various branches of self-expression, some people consider some parts of dancing or paintings not art. I don't think that is true, if the work is made by the artist for his own pleasure, then i think that art is art as long as the artist believes it is in himself. As for art, i think that it is a valuable aspect of life as to enjoy and express how people view the world in their eyes.

Book Report Spring Break

Orwell, George. Animal Farm. Harcourt Brace & Company: 1946

Reason, Type and Setting: Explain why you selected this book. Explain what type of book it is? (For instance, Western, adventure novel, teen romance, action, mystery, etc.) Where does you novel take place? In what time period does your book take place?

I chose this book because I remember that it was a choice to read during the 10th grade, and I heard that it was really good so I decided to read it. It is a novella with direct relation to the Russian Revolution that happened during 1917-1945

Animal farm is mainly about a group of animals that are tired of opression by the farm owner Mr. Jones, and decide to chase away the human residents of Manor Farm and the main character Napoleon the pig ultimately take over the farm for his personal interests at the expense of the other animals. As soon as the farm is free from Mr.Jones's posession Napoleon and Snowball are the two characters in the story that ultimately try to run the country as the leader. Snowball is seen with good intentions but doesn't have the forcible personality to take over Napoleon, while Napoleon soon takes over with brute force and assures the other animals that he knows whats best for the farm. At first the farm starts out hopeful, peaceful and happy, but as soon as Napoleon takes over the farm, the farm gradually gets worse and worse.

One character that I want to give an analysis of is Boxer the horse. Boxer throughout the story has incredible strength and works hard for the farm in belief of his two mottos, "I will work harder", and the key quote "Napoleon is always right". Out of context, Boxer can be seen as the Russian public because they assume that whatever the pigs do they are right. The pigs in the story are the leaders of the farm, and make decisions for Boxer in the story because he is slow witted and doesn't think about what goes on at the farm independently. Boxers personality can be accounted for driving most of the other animals to continuously follow Napoleon despite the circumstances, eventually as Boxer ages and gets sick, he get shiped by Napoleon for slaughter at a meat factory.

Overall I liked the book very well, and knowing that this has genuine real world connections to events in history it made me think about how the government can go seriously wrong in the right situations. It was entertaining to see how Napoleon twists the rules of Animal Farm to eventually making him the dictator. Though that Snowball was fated to never become leader of Animal Farm, I kind of regret that Snowball doesn't become the leader because I would've liked to see how Napoleon react when the majority of the animals approve of Snowball's actions.

I think that if I read this book as I was learning about the Russian Revolution in 10th grade would've made the book a lot more interesting to read.

If I was put in the context of Animal Farm and compared with Boxer, I think I would be almost the complete opposite, and I would've fled as Muriel the attention craving mare in the story. I overall liked how the ending came full circle as Napoleon became increasingly similar to Mr.Jones in the beginning of the story and how he ultimately becomes a human being.

George Orwell was born in England in 1903 and I know that he attended private school and knows the social elitist and social class system and how it is so skewed. He has written a futuristic novel, 1984, besides Animal Farm. I've read 1984, and I honestly like Animal Farm more than 1984, just because there are historical facts tied in to the book so well.

Current Event 02/29/08

If you read my last current event, then this one should be another kicker. Hilary Clinton has spoken to the media saying that the entire time Obama has been running his campaign it has been "negative" toward hers. She says and i quote, "Enough with the speeches and the big rallies and then using tactics right out of Karl Rove's playbook. This is wrong, and every Democrat should be outraged." Hmm. I dunno, but the whole "scrambling to catch up" thing is starting to make sense, I mean the fact that you're losing makes this attack look MORE desperate and relating anyone to Karl Rove, come on, that is uncalled for. Karl Rove is 4x the bigger do#$e bag then Obama is and I don't know, but i get the feeling that you're secretly RACIST. I mean i know for sure Bill wasn't but i don't think you ever got around to liking black people. Please, "negative"? You're the one making babyish attacks saying ~Obama used someone else's words!~ Case Closed.

Current Event 02/21/08

With the recent 2-1 gain of wisconsin, Barack Obama is now the front runner of the Democratic Race to become president, He has now 11 consecutive victories in various states with large margins. Hilary Clinton is now scrambling i repeat, SCRAMBLING to catch up is now coming to statements such as "It's time we moved from good words to good works, from sound bites to sound solutions," as she lost in Wisconsin and Hawaii in almost every voter group. She has lost her lead in delegates in the process as well. She is now in a pressured situation to win what is now the must-win states for her camaign such as the upcoming Texas. The fact that she and Mccain are attacking Obama with distorting his words and calling his plans "naive" is a little childish. That's like calling a 6 year old a baby. I mean honestly, if you really want to become a president, you need to start acting like one and not making every cheap shot the opposing candidate gives you. Barack Obama, has so far only retaliated to the attacks and have barely made his own. Another thing with Barack Obama is that he is inspirational. Many leaders in history has inspired their people or their country to do the greatest accomplishments in history through being able to motivate people and to have strong leadership skills. Hilary Clinton has the latter, while Obama has both, and my opinion, Hilary Clinton just gives me a vibe from her face that looks like she's the devil when she becomes president. The youtube video in the bottom talks about how people look at candidate's faces for 30 seconds and know who they want to elect.

countermand-to revoke or cancel (a command, order, etc.).
I thought of countermand as taking something back, and i thought of a bank and making a withdrawal on your account, then i finally thought of taking back money or something and thats how i came up with the image

acumen-keen insight; shrewdness: remarkable acumen in business matters.
with keen insight, its usually to the point where it's so good you think that the person has x-ray powers to your mind or something =D.

insurrection-an act or instance of rising in revolt, rebellion, or resistance against civil authority or an established government.
When i thought of resistance against an established government, i went off the beaten path as just as resistance so i thought of recent history of George W. Bush and the huge protest that happened in N.Y.

War Documentary Reflection

Civil War Documentary

Reflection: Overall the documentary had huge potential, but the fact that the civil war was before the time of pictures and motion pictures brought down the overall quality of the documentary. It goes in to very detailed explantations of various accounts of the civil war.

Style: narration coupled with interviews from various knowledgeable people and their opinons on the civil war. Had various still images, and that was probably what brought down the entire documentary to boredom.

Book Report 2/20

Franken, Al. Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. New York, New York: Penguin Group Inc. 2003

With the recent presidential debates going through pretty much all of media, I got interested to the whole "conspiracy, biased media" thing and I picked up this book and i'm glad that I read through it. Al Franken's consistent reference to ACTUAL evidence, helped me see the politics in the media in a new light.

As for character, the people mentioned in this story being the majority of them republicans, has shown me that during the bush administraion, most of the lying republicans, have no sense of guilt for their lies toward the american people.

Throughout most of the book, Al Franken goes through a somewhat systematic way of going through all the republicans that lie on the face of television. It taught me that what everyone said about Fox news being biased is true. Al Franken had given concrete evidence to back up his statements about the crooked people in the Republican party, and how America has gone EXTREMELY down hill as Bush took office and the republican bias on fox news has infected many minds in america. How with the combination of Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, through the Fox News Network essentially lies on a daily basis that affects the majority of America. I know that there are bad democrats as well, but the fact that there is such a strong oppositional force coming from them, and the fact that if you think about it in retrospect, it is so obvious makes me kind of upset that they are jepoardizing America's future.

Al Franken was originally a comedian and writer for Saturday Night Live in the mid-late 70's and he grew up a democrat with is father. He has now written various books one in particularly wrote in a similar fashion, "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations," was given good reviews.

Current Event 02/15/08

As of today, I will try to make current events as fun as possibly by putting in my inputs in the following events, pick interesting events to put on my blog etc. Here we GO!

GM, the world's largest Automaker in the world, has announced a 4th quarter fiscal drop and announced a 74,000 buyout offers to their employees to get back on recovery.

Now for my input. It's about time GM falls of it's automaking throne! Honestly, I could seriously be hired as a common-sense analyst for their company. I mean what is so hard to understand why you guys are getting consistent counter productivity? You guys advertise, advertise, and advertise your trucks constantly and their mileage is next to S$*%%y. Also, the fact that climate change is increasingly rising and the prices at the pump is rising, you honestly think that people are not SERIOUSLY considering more fuel effecient cars? Come on do you need proof? Does Honda or Toyota ring a bell? Their profits are skyrocketing at the fact that they are adapting and learning to co-exist with the environment. GM you guys had your "good old days", seriously. Grow Up. Now i'm not saying like not make trucks ever again. There's still a decent market for that, it's just not as high anymore with the recent events of the world. I'm saying put more effort in to advertising...whatever else you guys have, or make another car with decent R&D funding that looks appealing AND fuel effecient, and environmentally friendly.

Making Sense of American Popular Music Write Up

The song "Don't Sweat the Technique" by Eric B. and Rakim, is the single in their fourth and final album that was released in 1992 in the genre of rap/ hip hop. Though Eric B. and Rakim, debuted in 1986, the most influential album was "Don't Sweat the Technique". Though the time it was released it was given a good score, it was not considered influential, but as Hip Hop and Rap moved on, it is not considered one of the most influential albums in American Hip Hop in the 1990's. Eric B. and Rakim essentially changed the direction in which rap was going, from the controversial issues that were going on in society, to a more less if not completely non controversial issues.

Lyrics

Don`t Sweat The TechniqueDon't sweat the Technique(2x)
Let's trace the hints and check the file
Let see who bit to detect the style
I flip the script so they can't get foul.
At least not now, it'll take a while
I change the pace to complete the beat
I drop the bass,'till mc's get weak.
For every word they trace, it's a scar they keep...
'Cause when I speak, they freak
To sweat the technique
I made my debut in '86
Wit a melody and a president's mix
And now I stay on target and refuse to miss
And I still make hits
wit' beats, parties, clubs, in the cars and jeeps
My underground sound vibrates the streets
MC's wanna beef then I play for keeps
When they sweat the technique
Don't Sweat the Technique
They wanna know how many rhymes have I ripped in rep., but
Researchers never found all the pieces yet
Scientists try to solve the context
Philosophers are wondering what's next
Pieces are took to last who observe them
They couldn't absorb them, they didn't deserve them
My ideas are only for the audience's ears

For my opponents, it might take years
Pencils and pens, are swords
Letters put together form a key to chords
I'm also a sculpture, born with structure
Because of my culture, I'm a rip and destruct the
Difficult styles that'll be for the technology
Complete sights and new heights after I get deep
You don't have to speak just seek
And peep the technique
But don't sweat the technique
I speak indiscreet cause talk is cheap
Then I get deep and the weak then complete their
Pull with a seat, never weak or obsolete
They never grow old techniques become antiques
Better then something brand new 'cause it's radiant
And the wild style'll have much more volume
Classical too intelligent to be radical
Masterful, never irrelevant: mathematical
Here's some soothing souvenirs for all the years
They fought, and sought, the thoughts and ideas
It's cool when you freak to the beat
But don't sweat the technique
Don't sweat the technique (2x) Don`t Sweat The Technique
